TRADITIONAL USES

Green tea is steeped in tradition across Asia, particularly in China and Japan where it has been consumed for thousands of years. This ancient beverage is not only appreciated for its refreshing taste but also revered for its extensive medicinal properties. In China, where the tradition of tea drinking possibly began, green tea was initially used as a medicinal herb before becoming a staple beverage. Ancient practitioners frequently prescribed it for a variety of ailments—from healing wounds and aiding digestion to improving cardiovascular health and regulating body temperature. In traditional Chinese medicine, it was believed to balance the body’s internal energies and was often associated with promoting longevity and mental clarity. In Japan, the ceremonial preparation of green tea, known as the Japanese tea ceremony, reflects the deep spiritual and cultural significance attached to this beverage.

CLAIMS & ACTIVITY

Green tea extract harnesses its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to offer a natural, effective solution to enhance skin health and vitality. Green tea is rich in polyphenols, especially catechins, which are natural antioxidants. The most potent catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), known for its powerful skin-protective qualities. Antioxidants in green tea extract help neutralise free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage cells and contribute to ageing and disease. By applying products with green tea extract, the skin's defence against environmental pollutants and UV radiation is significantly enhanced. Green tea extract has significant anti-inflammatory properties, making it ideal for reducing skin redness, irritation, and swelling. Its calming effects are particularly beneficial for acne-prone or sensitive skin types. The antioxidants in green tea are effective in combating signs of aging. Studies show that topical application of green tea extract reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, likely due to its ability to inhibit enzymes that break down collagen and elastin.
